How did you manage without me all this time??? I am now in buenos aires, and for your information ofra haza´s song hai is amplified really good outside the internet cafe... I left you last time in Florianopolis, Brazil. Well, florianopolis is a touristic city for the brazilians, much like eilat is for the israelis. Many brazilians travel there from all over the country. Great beaches and nightlife. My portugaise got better so I could speak also to the brazilian tourists. They really know how to have a good time, and i found myself making nonsense in the street with them. I speak only little portugaise, and they speak even less english, which made the situation even more funny... After four days in florianopolis, I took a 15 hour bus ride to foz do iguacu. Now I have been to niagra falls in NY twice, and I must tell you that there is nothing to compare between the two. The niagra falls are much smaller! I also saw the largest hidroelectric plant there, which supplies 25% of the electricity of brazil - Then a thought came to my mind that all waterfalls in the world should be turned into power plants, and then we won´t rely on arab energy... The city was also nice, where i met even more locals, as my portugaise improved. They are really nice once you speak the language. I even got a free tour from them in the argentinian side at night. >From there i took a 15-hour bus ride up north to a city named compo-grande. After a few hours at 2am the bus broke down due to an electrical faliure in the engine... 30 minutes afterwards the driver couldn´t overcome the problem, so i offered my help. In return I got the schematic of the electrical system of the bus, with explanations in portugaise... I gave up in two minutes, but hey, I´m on vacation! So we waited another hour and a half until a repair truck came and replaced a fuse... >From compo grande I went to a town named Miranda, in order to visit the pantanal. The Pantanal is actually a big swamp, or wetlands, and is a great place to see wildlife. Although it is summer now, summer is the rainy season, so there is alot of rain and water, and of course much more blood-hungry mosquitos. Considering those mosquitos, the city of Miranda was planned to be my base to visit the pantanal for the following days. It would be much better sleeping in a room with air conditioning outside the pantanal than sleeping in a tent inside... So I took a tour to a farm in the pantanal. The first couple of minutes were fine, enjoying the view and animals. The mosquitos were not annoying as I anticipated, i thought to myself... I was of course wrong... after a few minutes they started eating me. There were so many mosquitos! I managed to kill 2 every minute, but still I got bit once every minute... I looked at my watch, 10am! I had until 5pm to "enjoy"... It calmed down later, and I really started enjoying it. I saw many alegators, tucans, parrots, all kinds of birds and even some mamals. I went fishing and cought about 20 piranhas in a half an hour... I have a future! So after one day i decided i am a sisy... aham... I meant to say that I decided I have seen enough, so i was on my way to Bonito. Bonito has many beautiful attractions. One of them is swimming in a river, which is very clean. In this river you can easily see 20-30 meters ahead with a mask and snorkel. You can also look from above the river and see a fish one meter down, and its shadow three meters down... One of the most beautiful places I have visited. >From there, 6 hours bus ride, and 6 (yes six) takeoffs and landings and now I am here in Buenos Aires, listening to ofra haza in the street... In two hours I am supposed to sign the renting contract of a studio apartment in the center of town. I intend to be here for the following month. The city seems very beautiful at first glance, and also very expensive. It is almost as expensive as Israel. All the prices are almost the same as brazil and peru, but in dollars - this makes everything about twice as expensive. It is good to finally be in a spanish-speaking country where i can talk and understand. They also speak good english as opposed to the brazilians. That is all for now. Please send me good news, something like "Arafat was killed by the mossad".
